Floral Ice Cubes

The coolest new way to savor the beauty of spring? Floral ice cubes. Dress up your drinks this spring with gorgeous edible flowers and add a pop of color to any beverage. It’s the perfect floral touch, for everything from a spring garden party to mother’s day brunch. Simple touches like this, take your party from ho-hum to fabulous with almost no effort (it’s as simple as making ice).

You can purchase edible flowers from your local farmer’s market, online or at a florist. Anything from herb blossoms, to pansies to lavender will work. I like to use a variety of different flowers for more color. For extra clear cubes, boil distilled water then let it cool completely. Then place flowers in an ice cube tray and add your water. Freeze, and voila! The most beautiful ice cubes, for your festive spring beverages!

Materials:

Edible flowers

Ice tray

Water

Directions:

  1. To suspend flowers in the cubes, work in layers: Fill an ice tray (one that makes large cubes so the ice will last longer) a quarter of the way with water, add flowers facing down, and freeze. Add more water to fill halfway, and freeze. Fill to the top, and freeze again.

  2. For ice that’s especially clear, use distilled water that has been boiled and then cooled.

  3. Use only edible flowers, such as orchids, nasturtiums, pansies, and snapdragons, that have been grown to be eaten (to ensure they haven’t been treated with chemicals).
